1. Restoration of the Valentine Diner (at the Heritage Center in Belmar Park).
The Valentine Diner is the only surviving diner of its type in the Denver metropolitan area and has several decorative elements valuable to the study of the Art Moderne style including flying buttresses, Îwaterfallâ door surround, rounded parapet, and curved entrance overhang. The Diner needs a restored exterior façade and refurbishment of its interior, as well as the acquisition of various cooking, serving and decorative items relative to the 1950âs.
Estimated cost for this restoration is $50,000.
2. Assistance with the acquisition of Valentine Diner products and materials.
The Valentine Diner will be ready to open to the public in early 2007. The need that requires funding is for objects like: plates, cups, silverware, napkin holders, ice cream scoops, menus, and other ephemera. Also, for use objects in the same categories.
Estimated cost for these products is $10,000.
3. Educational programming (Art Ventures and History).
We need funds to support our curriculum for the Valentine Diner, Spirit of Lakewood exhibit and the 1930's house. To accomplish this task we need to concept, research, write, develop and create 20th century history curriculum materials for the 1930's Depression Era farming, 1950's and Post World War II tourism, travel and family lifestyle area and expansion of topic areas covered in the Spirit of Lakewood exhibit.
Estimated cost for educational programming is $20,000.
4. Assistance with the restoration of the 1930's House.
This project is 95% complete after five years of restoration. The work has been accomplished through a partnership between the HCA volunteers, staff and the Apple wood Questers. These two groups have given physical labor and time to restore the kitchen, front parlor, dining room, and sun porch and (in process) three bedrooms. The Apple wood Questers have given grant to cover some of the costs. The one area, which needs to be funded still, is the bathroom. This includes fixtures, period appropriate lights and infrastructure. The 1930"s house would then be complete.
Estimated cost for this restoration is $8,000.
TOTAL FUND RAISING GOAL FOR 2006-2007 = $88,000.
